An important letter about the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus:
To all Polly Fox Students and Parents,
We wanted to update everyone on the current prevention plan for the H1N1 virus
(sometimes called Swine Flu). Many school districts in our area are planning
to vaccinate all students having a parent's consent.
There are many ways to
control outbreaks in our school, but we need your help. We are working with the
Toledo Lucas County Health Department and the Ohio Department of Health to offer
the best protection for our pregnant and parenting teens and their families.
H1N1 flu can spread quickly from person to person but there are ways to protect
your student:
-
Hand washing is one of the best ways to prevent any type of
illness from infecting you. Soap and water or the alcohol based hand sanitizers
are recommended.
- Teach your student to avoid sharing personal items: food,
drinks, and staying away from anyone coughing and sneezing.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when you cough
or sneeze to prevent the spread of germs. If you do sneeze or cough in your hands,
wash immediately.
- Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Fever, cough, sore throat,
runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and general tired feeling. Some people
have vomiting and diarrhea.
- If you are sick, stay home until you have not had a fever
for 24 hours. (This
means no fever without the use of Tylenol or Motrin!)
Students reporting illness will be sent home to protect all
of our students at Polly Fox.
Please call us if you have any questions. We will be sending another letter
and consent form home when we have more information on when the vaccine will
be available. Please send the consent form back as soon as possible after you
receive it to ensure your student is protected. Further info can be found at www.flu.gov or
1-800-CDC-INFO.
Sincerely,
Eileen Alexander RNC
