Development

Mrs. Joan Durgin is the Director of Program
Development at Polly Fox Academy.

Polly Fox Academy was opened in the fall of 2003 as a public charter school for 7th-12th grade pregnant and parenting teens. The Academy’s primary mission is to help each student graduate with the academic, parenting and life skills to be a successful, self-supporting adult and mother. From 30 girls and a staff of seven in 2003, Polly Fox now serves over 140 girls yearly and has increased to a staff of sixteen. During the 2012-2013 school year, the Academy graduated 28 students. Ten of these graduates received scholarships for postsecondary education and training.

Teen pregnancy is the #1 cause of girls dropping out of high school. One of the major barriers in returning is lack of childcare. Through a partnership with The Catholic Club, Polly Fox students have access to quality and affordable childcare. Scholarships are available and the nursery is located right across the street from the Academy.

Polly Fox Academy is intent on helping each student develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to build a future for herself and her child. We would not be successful in this effort without the support of our many community partnerships. Since the Academy opened it has had the generous support and backing of multiple agencies and institutions within Lucas County. Through them, the Academy has benefited from programs, services and grants that have strengthened our ability to fulfill our mission within the community. We are very grateful for all their support. Please refer to the Community Partners page for a current listing.

As we start the school year, we look forward to a new group of students and the addition of new programs.
